Senior living in Madison

Between the hours of 12:15 and 1:15 p.m., it's BINGO time at the Madison Senior Center.
While it may be too cold this month for outdoor activities, Madison's senior residents can find plenty to do indoors at the Madison Senior Center on Hughes Road, now and throughout the year – including a fun game of BINGO just after lunch.
Throughout the year, dozens of activities and meetings are planned at the center, offering a variety of things to do.
Activities Coordinator Joy Edwards said most of the people who come to the center do so for fun and fellowship with friends.
"We have a great time here at the senior center and we try to have a lot of fun, entertaining and neat things planned," Edwards said. "We do water aerobics, BINGO, dancing, shopping, exercising, calligraphy, health-oriented classes, quilting, crafts, and lots more."
Edwards, who has worked with the center for more than 12 years, said, once the Madison Recreation Center moved out of the Hughes Road building and into the Dublin Park facility, more activities have been offered.
During the month of January, the center will host its annual Winterfest. On Jan. 24 during Winterfest, Madison Mayor Jan Wells will present certificates of appreciation to the Senior Advisory Council. Also during the month of January, there will be a 55-Alive Defensive Driving Class taught. The class will run for two afternoons and will enable senior citizens to get lower automobile insurance rates through certain insurance companies.
Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch is served daily at 11:30 a.m.
