West Madison to hold Jump Rope for Heart event

By Staff
Students at West Madison Elementary School in Madison will be jumping at the chance to help fight heart disease and stroke while remembering one of their fellow classmates.
From 11 a.m. top 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, the school will hold its 8th Annual Jump Rope For Heart event in the gymnasium. Students will jump rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association's cardiovascular research and educational programs. Jump Rope For Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
West Madison also supports North Alabama's first and only Jump Rope For Heart Demonstration Team.
Joy Brindley, a physical education teacher at West Madison, began the team eight years ago. A demonstration team reunion will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.
"Students will be participating in team building activities and share memories of the team," Brindley said. "They will also share their memories of Ronald Blue, manager of the team from 2000-2002."
This year's event at West Madison will be in memory of Blue, a former student at West Madison who died on Dec. 26, 2002.
"Please help our children help others," Brindley said. "When a student asks you to be a sponsor, support Jump Rope For Heart with whatever you can afford to give."
For more information about the event, call Brindley at 837-1189.
