Madison Academy takes care of business on road

Madison Academy’s march to a second-straight Class 3A baseball championship continued last week with a sweep of third-ranked White Plains in the quarterfinals.
The Mustangs, ranked No. 1 in the state, beat the Wildcats 13-2 and 7-4 to advance to the semifinals.
Madison Academy, now 34-11, will travel to Winfield for a doubleheader beginning at  5 tonight. A third game, in  necessary, would be played Saturday at 1 p.m.
White Plains finished 29-6 after being swept by the Mustangs.
Clayton Palicki and Drew Mobley homered in the first game as the Mustangs pounded out 14 hits in the game that ended in five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Mobley picked up the win for Madison Academy after going the distance.
Stafford Booth earned the win in the second game after finishing with 10 strikeouts.
Mobley came on in relief to close out the game, earning the save for the Mustangs.
Madison Academy trailed 4-2 after White Plains got six hits off Booth in the first two innings.
Palicki tied the game with a two-run single and the Mustangs pulled away for the win with three runs over the final three innings.
Madison Academy has won nine of its last 10 games and has swept all three of its playoff series this season.
Seven of the wins during the recent run have come with offensive outputs of 11 runs or more.
Madison Academy’s 34 wins this season is a school record. The Mustangs won 32 games in 2007 and again last season.
