Record earns APA awards

The Madison County Record earned several honors in the Alabama Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest.
Among the awards it received were:
• First place, Best printing
• First place, Best Education Coverage
• First place, Best Sports Photo by Todd Thompson
• Second place, Best Humorous Column by Leada Gore
• Second place, Best Editorial Column by Gore
• Second place, Best Sports News In-Depth Coverage by Thompson
• Third place, First Amendment Award for coverage of Madison Police Chief interviews
Some 64 newspapers submitted 2,525 entries in this year’s contest. The awards will be presented at the APA’s June 5 convention.
The Record also received awards in the APA’s advertising contest. Those awards included:
• First place, Best Signature Page
• Second place, Best Single Black and White ad smaller than half page by Jill Copeland
• Third place, Sweepstakes Award, the contest’s top honor
• Third place, Best Classified Page
• Third place for Best One-Time Special Section
• Third place, Best Classified Display Ad
