BJHS girls volleyball wraps up home schedule

Bob Jones girls volleyball team played its last home game Oct. 5 against Hazel Green High School.

Bob Jones volleyball played its final home match Tuesday, Oct. 5 against Hazel Green High School.

Bob Jones won in five games, 13-25, 25-22,16-25, 25-16 and 15-12.

After falling to HG in the first game, the Patriots rallied to win game two, only to lose again in game three. Game four was where the team finally pulled together and intensified their playing, which led to the fifth and final tie breaking game.

Stats for the game included Senior Savannah Wright with 22 assists, Megan Butler with 11 assists, Lauren Butler with 26 digs, Bethany Fury with 25 digs, Lauren Butler with 11 kills and Megan Butler with 11 kills.

Wright, who was recognized as part of the Senior Night tradition, led the Patriots.

Wright has been on the varsity team for three years and is the setter for the team. She was a member of the State Championship team in 2008. The word the team selected this year was ‘commitment’ which Wright was recognized for as the only senior to return for the 2010 season. She credits her new coach for pulling the young team together this summer.

The team’s new coach, April Marsh, joined BJHS in June from Hazel Green High School, where she was head coach for three years. She is a graduate of the University of North Alabama, where she received a BS and MA degree.  She and her husband, Austin, who is also a coach at Tanner High School, have two children, Ty and Maggie.

The team’s record is now 32-18 and are 4-0 in Area 15, which includes Austin, Decatur and Florence.

The Area Tournament will be held at BJHS Oct. 12. The team left for Tampa Oct. 6 to play in the Tampa Invitational Tournament, held at the University of Tampa.
