Eagle Scout hosts benefit for M.A.R.F.

Music for M.A.R.F. is Haight's community service project for the Eagle Scouts.

They say every dog has its day, and for canines in Madison, that day will be Jan. 15.

Jeffrey Haight, a 17-year-old junior at Bob Jones High School has been planning Music for MA.R.F., a benefit event for the Madison Animal Rescue Foundation, since September as his community service project for the BSA Troop 412. The event will take place at 7 p.m., Jan. 15 in the Bob Jones High School auditorium.

He said he wants to promote awareness of M.A.R.F. and its mission and goals. To accomplish this, Haight is combining his love of music and performance to create an event that would he promises that will not only entertain, but provide for a good cause.

“They (M.A.R.F.) don’t have a facility of their own, so they have to find foster homes for the animals,” Haight said. “And music and theatre has always been close to me, so I wanted to do something involving that.”

Music for MA.R.F. will include performances by local bands Street K52, 16 to Harlem and the Discovery Middle School JAZZ Ensemble, with appearances by the BJHS and DMS Choral Ensembles.

It is against Scout policy to take money, so cost of admission is a bag of Science Diet, IAMS or Purina Pet Food. He recommends one small bag for a couple and one large bag for a family.

Concessions will be available.

“I would like everyone to come out and support if they can,” Haight said.
