Family recovers from home fire

Firemen stand outside of the home located on Maplewood Drive Tuesday, Jan. 4.

The Bradley family has a new home.

Their home located at 291 Maplewood Drive was devastated by a fire that began Monday, Jan. 10 around 2:30 p.m.

They have since moved to Red Oak Road, located right around the corner from their old house.

Sheritha Bradley said she is relieved because she did not want to have to relocate her 8-year-old son, Aiden, in the middle of the school year.

“We didn’t want to leave the Madison area,” Bradley said.

Bradley noticed the home on Red Oak Road had been for sale for awhile, and contacted the Realtor to ask if the owner might be willing to rent it out.

The owner agreed, and now Bradley and her two sons and mother are renting the house.
Bradley said her family is still recovering from the psychological damage of the fire, but they are “trying to get adjusted” to their new home with help from the Madison community and neighbors.

“We’re glad they get to stay, and the little boy doesn’t have to change schools,” said Jill Stallcup, a neighbor and member of the Homemakers group.

The Homemakers group donated household items to the Bradley family after the fire.

“They’ve done the real work,” Stallcup said. “I’ve helped where I could.”

Bradley thanked the Madison community and all her neighbors for their support.

“I was shocked at the support from the community and the general concern that everyone has had,” Bradley said. “They have been great.”
