Grants announced to combat drugs and violence in Alabama

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs has announced grants totaling $3.05 million to combat illegal drugs and drug-related violent crime in Alabama.

The funding will support 17 multi-jurisdictional drug and violent crime task forces across the state. The task forces conduct undercover operations to arrest and prosecute drug offenders, find and dismantle dangerous methamphetamine laboratories and assist with other violent crime investigations. The county commissions and municipal governments receiving the grants act as fiscal agents for the task forces.

The city of Huntsville will receive $309,294 for the Madison-Morgan County Strategic Counterdrug Team.
