Barbara Ann Slayton Murphy, 74, of Madison passed away Friday, June 17 at her home.
Mrs. Murphy was born June 28, 1936, in Decatur to Leo Slayton and Ruby Oliver Slayton, both of whom preceded her in death. She retired after 38 years with the Madison County School system and leaves behind many devoted and long-cherished friends and colleagues from her years of service there.
She is also preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of fifty years at his death, Mr. Dock Draper Murphy.
Survivors include one sister, Patricia Slayton Borden and husband, Seyburne, of Trinity; one brother, Jackie L. Slayton of Livingston; daughter, Belinda Murphy Christopher and husband, William, of Rogersville; sons, Dock David Murphy and wife, Denise, and Randall D. Murphy and wife, Tara, both of Madison; grandchildren, Jarrod Hannah and wife, Whitney, of Toney, Cory Hannah of Hazel Green, Callie Christopher Cordle and husband, John, of Madison, Dustin Murphy of Huntsville, Heath Murphy, Dylan Murphy, Ashley Murphy and Larsen Murphy, all of Madison; great-grandchildren, Mirin Hannah and Cole Hannah of Toney, Jaedyn Evans of Madison and John, Matthew and Nicholas Cordle of Madison. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family, all of whom shall sorely miss her.
To her friends, she was a loyal, loving and unselfish touchstone, to be counted on in any situation, and shall be long remembered with the most tender affection.
To her family, she was, Mother, Mama, Mom and Nanny, our Rock. She was a tireless servant to their needs and their spirit; a loving, anchoring matriarch who provided a love that shall continue to live on for all those who were blessed to know her sweet soul.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 20 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service was at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21 at Madison City Cemetery with the Rev. Ricky Lowery officiating.
