Board awards city’s best properties

Jim Wright of Windstone subdivision won one of the board's highest honors, the Knock Out Rose Award.

The Madison Beautification Board held its annual awards luncheon June 30 and had an unprecedented 11 winners of the Excellence Award.

Those winners all received a 100 percent rating on their properties.

“This instills pride in Madison,” said Liz Cuneo, president of the board. “We’ve never had 11 Excellence winners. That’s a lot of properties taking a lot of pride in what they’re doing.”

The score sheet is broken down by different categories such as appearance and style.

The winner of the board’s highest honor, the Knock Out Rose Award, was Jim Wright of the Windstone subdivision. That award is chosen for the best use of the Knock Out Rose.

Madison Family Dentistry received two awards. This is the first year the office applied for the award. Emily McIntosh was on hand to accept.

“It was a big honor to receive the Beautification Award and the award of Excellence,” she said. “It was very exciting.”

The award ceremony was originally held in conjunction with the Madison Chamber of Commerce’s business awards, but had enough attendees this year to break away.

“We felt because the growth of our awards program, we needed a standalone luncheon,” Cuneo said. “When you look at the crowd today, we simply couldn’t have fit in her with the chamber luncheon. We’re every pleased with the turnout.”
