Christine Buzby; Aug. 24, 2011

Christine Buschmann Buzby of Madison, formerly of Broomall, Pa., died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Mrs. Buzby was preceded in death by her son, the Rev. Richard Buzby; and her husband, Harry Sproule Buzby Jr.

She is survived by her son, Brian Buzby and wife Dee of Madison; four granddaughters, Robin B. Lewis and husband Blaine and, Jane B. Goode and husband Eddie of Roanoke, Va., Susan B. Barnes and husband Josh of Tampa, Fla., and Karen B. Hauck and husband Robert of Goose Creek, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Casey Lewis, Madison Lewis and Charlie Hauck; and six nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Buzby, of German descent, and the daughter of August and Emma Buschmann, was born Sept. 29, 1909, in Westfield, Mass.

She graduated from Beaver College, now Arcadia University, with a degree in home economics. After receiving her degree, she had a 35-year career as a dietician. In Pennsylvania, she was active in Cub Scouts, community theater and local government. In 1994, Mrs. Buzby and her husband moved to Decatur, where she was active in Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.

In 2003, Mrs. Buzby moved to Madison, where she attended St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Mrs. Buzby enjoyed traveling throughout her life, and she loved the water, the ocean and swimming pools. In her later years she especially enjoyed water aerobics until she was 94.

There will be a memorial service at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 786 Hughes Road, Madison, at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 with the Rev. Steve Gruman officiating. An interment win Westfield will be held at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church’s memorial fund.
