MA continues recent dominance

Homecoming night for the Mustangs is a needed win for both squads. The Mustangs looked to continue a recent dominance in their region while Plainview looked to get even for last year’s loss.

The Mustangs executed a long, sustained drive to score the game’s first touchdown, a 12-yard scamper by Kerryon Johnson. On the ensuing kickoff, a big hit by Marcus Sease created a fumble, which was recovered by Blake Wimberly. A five-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Olive to Nick Haas would then push the score up to 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Mustang defense would continue it’s strong play, holding the Plainview offense without a first down through the first half. Johnson’s second touchdown was more spectacular as he took a third and two handoff 79 yards for the score. The defense would stand strong again, giving the Mustang offense another opportunity. They would capitalize, as Hunter Olive would scramble for Madison Academy’s fourth score of the night. Another Plainview turnover, a Khyle Jackson interception, would give MA the ball back with 1:15, but the offense could not punch it in. At halftime, the Mustangs would hold a commanding 28-0 lead.

Plainview began the second half with the ball, but found no success, punting for the fifth time in the game. A broken play would come up roses for the Mustangs as Olive broke three tackles behind the line of scrimmage and scrambled for a 45-yard touchdown run. The Mustang offense would substitute freely in the late third quarter with the score standing at 35-0.

The fourth quarter bogged down as both teams played all of their players. Plainview would get on the scoreboard with 6:35 remaining in the final quarter to make the score 35-6. The MA offense would play conservatively during the fourth quarter, running the ball and keeping the clock moving. The MA defense was truly dominating and kept their winning streak alive by defeating the Plainview Bears 35-6.
