Fouts-Detulleo fond of Ripple and Loop designs

Jen Fouts-Detulleo’s work, JFDesigns, currently is featured at 16 Main Gallery.

Her designs include modern crochet hats, headbands and scarves for all ages. “I also make newborn photography props, tutus and headbands,” Fouts-Detulleo said.

“My beloved Grandma Vivian taught me how to crochet when I was little, but over time I forgot how,” she said. “However, my other fabulous grandma, Shirley, re-taught me in the summer of 2010.”

Fouts-Detulleo left her grandmother’s house only knowing how to make a very uneven chain. “The rest I taught myself with the use of the Internet and books,” she said. “When I began, I was just looking for a hobby to help pass the winter months.”

Her two scarf designs, the “Ripple” and “Loop” styles, are her own creations. She embellishes many of the scarves with selections from her vintage button collection.

She also sells a variety of women’s hats, all available in a vast array of colors, she said.

If pressed to name a favorite design, Fouts-Detulleo would have to choose the loop scarf. She has designed the scarf to be worn in two ways. “This particular scarf has a hole at one end, which you pull the other end through, button and let hang. Or, you can pull it back and tuck for more of a cowl look,” she said.

Fouts-Detulleo also enjoys the process of creating her one-of-a-kind owl hats. “The base of the hats is made from ‘up-cycled’ sweaters. The eyes and nose are made using yarn and buttons. These are too cute for words,” she said.

Her husband Glenn Detulleo is a hockey player with the Huntsville Havoc.
