The annual 2012 Curriculum Fair will take place tonight for Madison City High Schools, including the new high school to open, James Clemens High School.

The event is an opportunity for parents, students and teachers to get together and help each other learn, improve and understand the curriculum and classroom in hopes of a productive relationship between all.

“Parents can expect colorful displays, brochures, storyboards and demos to highlight the various program offerings available to high school students of Madison City Schools,” said Bob Jones High School Assistant Principal Dr. Julie Finley. “It’s our teachers’ time to increase interest in their classes.  From challenging core, to high interest electives, to the relevant experiences in the career technology academies of engineering, medicine, culinary, business management, building science and more.”

Attendees will also be able to learn more about the schools Junior ROTC and all the accomplishments achieved.

“The AL Unit #20021 has participated in numerous interscholastic drill meets and community service activities while supporting a wide range of local district programs,” Finley said. ” Parents will see an expansion of this opportunity as James Clemens develops courses through the Army Junior ROTC with parallel opportunities for student involvement.”

Guidance counselors will be hand for students and parents to speak with and gain school orientation information.

“As parents, we need to help our students identify their personal strengths,” she said. ” Previous standardized testing can provide an enormous amount of helpful information regarding aptitude and can guide course selection – telling us where we should be challenged – to where we may need additional support. Also, career inventories help our students focus on their interest. Areas of interest should translate into possible elective opportunities as these are certainly the areas where it’s easiest for us to excel.”

The Curriculum Fair will be held from 5 p.m. to 7p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at Bob Jones High School in the cafeteria.
