Holy Week activities lead up to Easter

Easter holds the greatest significance of all Christian observances. Both religious and secular activities are scheduled for Holy Week in Madison.

Madison Public Library, 130 Plaza Blvd. is hosting its first Children’s Garden Spring Egg Hunt on April 4 from 3 to 5 p.m. Infants to five-year-olds are welcome to attend. Space is limited, so plan to arrive early.

Asbury United Methodist Church, 980 Hughes Road will have Maundy Thursday Service at 7 p.m. The Spring Prayer Labyrinth will be held in the Five Points Coffeehouse on April 5-6.

Asbury’s Good Friday service will start at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. On April 7, an Easter egg hunt will be staged in the Fellowship Hall and the grounds from 10 a.m. to noon. Easter Sunday worship will be conducted in the sanctuary at 7:30, 8:45 and 10:30 a.m. and in the Grace Worship Center at 8:45 and 10:30 a.m.

Master’s Way United Methodist Church, 29768 Huntsville/Brownsferry Road, will host a neighborhood egg hunt on April 7 at 10 a.m. Easter sunrise service will open at dawn.

Also on April 7, Dublin Park will host its 15th annual Easter egg hunt for infants through five-year-olds. Gates will open at 9:30 a.m. on Malcolm Field.

After the hunt, the Easter Bunny will be available for photographs. The hunt is free and sponsored by the City of Madison and Alabama Teleco Credit Union.

First Baptist Church of Madison, 4257 Sullivan St. will serve the Lord’s supper for Maundy Thursday at 5, 5:20, 5:40 and 6 p.m. On Good Friday, a Tenebrae Service of Lights at 7 p.m. will feature soloists Katie Stamps and Laura Elrod.

On April 7, the “Little Kids Egg Hunt” and brunch at FBC will start at 9 a.m. The “big kids” will have a flashlight hunt and games at 6:30 p.m. Easter sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast.

On Holy Thursday, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1055 Hughes Road will conduct morning prayer at 9 a.m. with confessions at 9:15 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be conducted at 7 p.m. with prayer before the Blessed Sacrament until midnight.

On Good Friday, confessions continue, along with Stations of the Cross at 2 p.m. and Passion Service at 7 p.m. On Holy Saturday, an Easter Vigil will gather at 8 p.m.
