MADISON – Registration for summer day camp at Dublin Park will be held on April 13.

“The City of Madison Parks and Recreation Department will begin its second year of the summer day camp program starting in May of 2013,” recreation director Kory Alfred said. “This exciting program provides an opportunity for summer care for the children in the Madison area.”

The camp is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade for the current school year. On April 13, registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and continue until all slots are filled.

Camp dates will be May 28 through mid-August. Limited spaces are available.

The camp’s mission “is to provide a quality summer program for school-age children in a social atmosphere to promote physical wellness, self-expression and good sportsmanship through team and individual activities,” Alfred said.

The camp’s goals include increasing social skills with peers and adults by encouraging participation and a sense of belonging. Youngsters can acquire new interests and hobbies and gain an appreciation for the outdoors, Alfred said.

Campers can “improve health and fitness through physical activities and recreation … and have fun,” Alfred said. Activities for summer day camp at Dublin include team play for kickball, soccer, basketball, disc golf and scavenger hunts.

Campers can pursue individual activities, like swimming, tennis, free play and dance. Counselors will serve afternoon snacks.

Art and crafts sessions will be held. Special guest speakers also will visit the campers.” For field trips, we’ll take campers for bowling, skating and to the movies,” Alfred said.

The registration fee is $100 per child and must be paid on April 13 during sign-up. Weekly rates are $110, one child; $180, two children; and $240, three children.

“Once we meet our available slots, a waiting list will be formed,” Alfred said. All campers must complete a registration packet and sign the behavior policy.
