ARDMORE – Huntsville Hospital has named Lydia Eubanks of Ardmore High School as “Athlete of the Year.”

Huntsville Hospital selects an Athlete of the Week from September through April. Students who apply must be a high school senior, maintain a grade point average of 3.5 minimum and exhibit both athletic and academic accomplishments, along with volunteering in their communities.

From the pool of weekly winners, a male and female winner for the year is chosen (huntsvillehospital.org).

Eubanks’ male counterpart of the year is David Hergenroeder of Bob Jones High School in Madison. Huntsville Hospital chose Eubanks and Hergenroeder from a field of 32 athletes that had received “Athlete of the Week” honors.

As Athlete of the Year, Eubanks and Hergenroeder each will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

At Ardmore High, Eubanks has compiled a 4.37 GPA and has been an ‘A’ honor roll student since her freshman year. She is in the top five students in her class with the highest grade averages in all subjects and ranks third in her graduating class.

An accomplished sportswoman, Eubanks is involved with multiple sports, including volleyball, basketball and soccer. This ‘Fighting Tiger’ will leave a legacy for upcoming students in Ardmore to emulate during their time in high school.

A born leader, Eubanks served as team captain for varsity soccer, volleyball and basketball teams at Ardmore.

Her athletic ability led to inclusion in the all-county volleyball and basketball teams — twice for basketball. Her senior classmates voted her “Most Athletic.”

In civic involvement, Eubanks volunteers for the local food bank and with her church. She has assisted at book fairs and field days for the elementary school in Ardmore. Sharing her love of basketball, Eubanks serves as a coach for youth during summer camps.
