“Music at Messiah” Classical Concert Series will debut with the Arsenal Brass Quintet of the U.S. Army Materiel Command Band on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. Concerts will be held in Messiah’s sanctuary at 7740 U.S. 72. W., just east of Hughes Road.

“We at Messiah Lutheran Church are excited to offer something new in Madison that many of us have desired for quite some time,” spokesperson John Shriver said. “Music plays an essential role in our lives. Unfortunately, we have had to travel to neighboring communities to enjoy professional musicians and especially classical music.”

The first Music at Messiah concert will be a salute to veterans on this Veterans Day weekend. The Arsenal Brass Quintet will play a wide range of music from Bach and Rossini, to Sousa, Fats Waller and Paul McCartney.

“Our goal is to have three or four concerts this year (Fall 2013 through Spring 2013) and five or six concerts in succeeding years with performances by vocal groups and choirs, chamber groups, small jazz ensembles and vocal soloists,” Shriver said.

Music at Messiah is an arts event. Concerts are open to the public and are free. Donations, sponsors and program advertisers are welcome.

The congregation at Messiah has recently expanded its sanctuary. “We have been blessed with an acoustical setting that is ideal for choirs and small chamber ensembles. The Music at Messiah Concert Series will serve not only the members of Messiah but all of Madison,” Shriver said.

“Historically music has played an important role in the Lutheran Church, and we are pleased to continue that tradition in Madison,” Shriver said. “Martin Luther said, ‘Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.’ We’ll work to present the noblest music that we can find.”
