MADISON- James Clemens scored first but that lead was short lived as Bob Jones reeled off eleven straight points, pulled away early and never trailed after the opening minute.

James Clemens coach Luther Tiggs inserted five new starters in the first quarter and it seemed to spark the Jets. Tykeem Franklin and Jordan Harris each scored six points in the second quarter to close the gap to 27-21 at halftime.

Josh Mitchell opened the second half with a three point shot and Bob Jones pulled away 33-21 as James Clemens failed to score in the first 3 and half minutes of the second half.

Franklin’s basket got the Jets to with two at 36-34 but Bob Jones answered right back with Mitchell’s three pointer and Dalton Barkley scored down low to extend the Patriot’s lead to 11.

For the record, Josh Garth of James Clemens had the only slam dunk of the game late in the fourth quarter.

Dalton Barkley was the game’s top scorer with 16 points including 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Josh Mitchell had 12 against his former team.

Tykeem Franklin led the Jets with 12 and Jordan Harris had 11.

“Any win early in the season is big for our confidence,” said Bob Jones Head Basketball Coach Graham Aderholt. “Josh is a leader for us, he is a true point guard, and gets our team going. Every time they got close he made a big shot for us.”

Aderholt is still playing without three football players who will join the team when their season is over. He counts on center Dalton Barclay in their absence.

“Dalton has been solid for us,” Aderholt said. “You can count on Dalton to not just score but defend and rebound. We’re putting a lot on him to bring physicality until we get our football guys.”

Bob Jones next home game is Dec. 3 against Decatur. The first area game is at Hazel Green on Friday Dec 6.

James Clemens goes to 2-3. Their next game is Dec. 3 home against Hazel Green.
