West Madison Spring Carnival offers cake walk, Bingo and crafts to residents

MADISON – Organizers are adding a twist to the West Madison Spring Carnival that should please residents and school families attending the annual event.

The carnival on March 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be held outside “to have a more carnival feel without the rides,” PTA President Angie Enderton said. In the past, carnival festivities were staged in classrooms.

“The more, the merrier,” Enderton said about this community outreach event. “There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the community, families, students and everyone come together for a good cause.”

“We have amazing and numerous volunteers taking part in organizing this event,” Enderton said. The West Madison PTA Board includes vice presidents Michele Gay, volunteers; Suzanne Richards, programs; Charla Weaver, membership; treasurer Staci Sellers; and secretary Alesia Jackson.

PTA members are continuing to register vendors. Beard and Blossom reclaims old, wooden windows and picture frames as distressed chalkboards, memo boards and coat hooks. Lisa Riccardi Studios and Tisa’s Pieces Pottery will offer paintings, pottery and clay pendants.

Yarnies! offers crocheted and knitted stars, hats and scarves. Artist Dicie White makes shelves, tables and frames from barn wood and windows and decorates grapevine wreaths. Origami Owl also will have a booth.

Which Wich will sell their sandwiches. Other vendors will offer delicious munchies and treats. Vendors pay a fee and are asked to donate 10 percent of sales to the elementary school.

For carnival games, Grades K-6 will sponsor, respectively, Floating Ducks, Lollipop Tree, Go Fishing, Pong Toss, Ring Toss, Football Throw and Bounce House. Also, each grade is designing art for a people’s-choice vote.

All-time favorites, Bingo and a cake walk, will return this year. Bingo prizes include Sport Clips haircuts, a LEGO set, family pass to Burritt on the Mountain and gifts cards for iTunes, Whistle Stop Sweet Shop, Pie in the Sky and Outback. PTA members encourage other businesses to donate.
