Student artists recognized in 2014 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

MADISON – Numerous Madison teenagers earned commendation for this region by Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards.

Along with the outstanding recognition, the annual fine arts contest enables students for eligibility to scholarships. The awards’ top echelon is the Gold Key, followed by Silver Key and Honorable Mention.

Bob Jones artists earning Gold Keys are David Horn, drawing, “Blue Jeans and Rain”; Troy Koler, comic art, portfolio “Dynamism of My Personality” and “Dauntless,” “Deforestation” and “Art Determination”; Harper Pannell, drawing, “Taste Of Autumn”; Leah Parker, painting “Grandpa’s”; Natalie Petrucka, drawing, “Within Me”; Lauryn Rody, painting, “Brightest as the Sun Sets”; Connor Sawyer, portfolio, drawing, “Life and Times of Coffee”; Olivia Skillern, painting, “View1”; and Kayla Smith, drawing, “Camera Shy.”

Silver Key recipients from Bob Jones are Alex Chappell, drawing, “Peek” and painting, “Caddo Lake”; Kayla Buckelew, drawing, “Masked”; Ian Hendrix, drawing, “A Look Into the Mind’s Eye”; Leah Hong, drawing, “Not So Smiley”; Allison Koesters, portfolio, “Wanderlust”; Troy Koler, comic art, “Daily”; Leah Parker, drawing, “Kennedy”; Natalie Petrucka, drawing, “Opposites Attract” and “Support”; Ashley Pursifull, drawing, “Cheetahlicious”; Lauryn Rody, drawing, “The Machine Within”; Erin Shockey, drawing, “Bright”; and Lauren Steil, painting, “Tim’s Ford” and drawing, “Drawing Kick It.”

Students earning honorable mention from Bob Jones are Sara Barker, Namena Bojang, Madison Hager, Ian Hendrix, Victoria Lewis, Megan McDowell, Natalie Petrucka, Ernesto Rodriguez, Erin Shockey, Olivia Skillern (two submissions), Diaesha Summerhill and Sydney Taylor.

From James Clemens, Rebecca Odum earned the Gold Key for drawing with “Internal Conflict.” Silver key recipients are Victoria Bender, painting, “Freedom”; Kristin Harris, drawing, “Myself”; and Kayla Jackson, drawing, “Instrumental.”

Students earning honorable mention from James Clemens are Victoria Bender, Kayla Jackson (two submissions), Dylan Neal and Rebecca Odum.

Bob Jones art teachers are Robin Lakso and Jennifer Norton. James Clemens art teachers are Joel Loudon, Mason Overcash and Liz Vaughn.

Professionals in each discipline judge submissions. Scholastic Arts & Writing will announce their national medallists on March 17.
