MADISON – With winter’s frigid-cold days leaving, the warm springtime and summer will offer plenty of fun activities in Madison.

This weekend on April 5, Art 4 Paws will launch the festival season with a unique celebration of pets and art. Pet adoption groups will have perfect candidates for family pets. The day includes arts and crafts, concessions and an amateur dog show.

Madison City Farmers Market will open April 12 in a new location — Trinity Baptist Church, 1088 Hughes Road. Area farmers will offer early vegetables, cheese, eggs, meats, confections and flowers.

Dublin Park will host its annual Easter egg hunts on April 18-19. Also on April 19, Mayor Troy Trulock will reopen the renovated Kids Kingdom.

Derby Days, Madison’s salute to the Kentucky Derby, will charge from the starting post on May 3. The festival offers a millinery contest, bluegrass music, “Bed Races” and fashion show.

Madison Gazebo Concerts will run from May 29 through July 31. Vocal and instrumental musicians will entertain in genres ranging from rock to country.

Madison Chamber of Commerce will present MadFood 2014 on May 13 at the Best Western Plus. At Safety Optimist Style in May, children can meet first-responders and enjoy outdoor fun, thanks to the Madison Optimist Club.

As the school year ends, both James Clemens and Bob Jones high schools will present the work of fine arts students. These wise-beyond-their-years teenagers will amaze guests with artwork exhibits, drama, band and choral music, fashion displays, drumline and winter guard shows.

Madison Public Library’s annual Fun Run on June 7 will feature an “Animal Tales” show and opens the library’s summer reading program and activities for children and teens.

This summer, Madison Ghost Walk will reveal downtown’s paranormal past. Dublin Park’s July 4 celebration, perfect for a family outing, ends with a dazzling fireworks show.

In August, Rotary Club of Madison will host Parrots of the Caribbean, their laid-back, island party with a live band downtown.

When summer ends, the fun continues with Madison Street Festival on Oct. 4.
