MADISON – As the 2013-2014 school year draws to an end, parents and students can voice their feelings about their school in an online survey.

In recent NotifyMe messages, administrators and staff with Madison City Schools have been urging parents and their children to complete the end-of-year survey with their honest opinions. The educators promise that all responses will be anonymous.

The survey results will help administrators improve system practices and prepare for the 2014-2015 school year. Advanced Education Inc. created the surveys.

To access the parent survey, visit advanc-ed.org/survey/public/7693534. The survey first asks for demographic details, like race and the child’s grade.

Then, parents will answer questions by multiple choice, ranging from “Strongly Agree” to “Strongly Disagree.”

The survey covers diverse topics. Some questions deal with the school’s focus on student success and expectations, importance of parental involvement and if families and volunteers have venues for involvement.

Parent can indicate if the child’s teachers meet individual needs, use various teaching strategies and challenge students to learn and communicate well about academic progress. The survey continues by asking about the caliber of the faculty, safety, classroom resources and support services, such as counseling or career planning.

The survey ends with three essay questions. Parents can state what they like best about their school, what they like least and one suggestion that they would offer to improve the school.

In the student surveys, questions are phrased for three age groups. For grades K-2, visit advanc-ed.org/survey/public/6884978. The questions are easy to under, such as giving opinions about “My teacher makes me think” and “My family knows how I do in school.”

Surveys for students in grades 3-5 are available at advanc-ed.org/survey/public/1437395. For sixth-graders and older, visit advanc-ed.org/survey/public/0893840.
