MADISON – The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) organization in the Diocese of Alabama has presented three of its 12 scholarship awards to Madison students.

Nathan Lewis Burch and Kylie Clem received ECW College Scholarships. June Howard was awarded the 2014-2015 Elizabeth Blair Pannell Scholarship.

Burch, Clem and Howard attend St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Madison.

“We commend these students for all they have already accomplished, and we send our blessings with them as they continue their education and spiritual journeys,” ECW Scholarships Coordinator Theresa Y. Hester said.

Episcopal Church Women presents these scholarships based on need, church and community involvement and academic commitment. Each scholarship recipient is a communicant of the Diocese of Alabama and endorsed by their parish priest.

The organization has granted more than $150,000 to aspiring students in the diocese since the early 1900s when Bishop Richard Hooker Wilmer established the first scholarship fund.

ECW continues to assist students in the diocese to achieve their educational goals, thanks to the addition of other named funds and the growth of the ECW General Scholarship Fund.

ECW includes women of all ages, ethnic origins and socioeconomic backgrounds in the Episcopal Church USA. The Alabama organization strives to empower, motivate and nurture the women of the Diocese of Alabama in utilizing their gifts and talents to serve Christ in this world.

Philanthropists who value the importance of education have donated generously to fund the ECW scholarships. For more information, contact ECW, Diocese of Alabama, 521 North 20th St., Birmingham, AL 35203-2611.

St. Matthew’s address is 786 Hughes Road. For more information, visit stmatthewsmadison.org.
