MADISON – Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater will present theatrical interpretations of several literature and fairy tale classics for 2014-2015, their 54th season.

“Our 54th season promises to delight children of all ages with theatrical magic and artistry,” executive director Karen Ouriel Mockensturm said. “Fantasy is proud to be a gateway to the arts for the youth of North Alabama, whether by reaching them as audience members or training them as volunteer theater artists themselves.”

Lucas Kiker will direct “The Neverending Story,” which follows Bastian after he stumbles into a bookshop and finds a curious book. Bastian’s discovery propels him into an incredible adventure. Performances will be presented from Oct. 10-19.

Their season extra, the 25th anniversary performance of “A Christmas Carol,” is a musical adaptation of the enduring Charles Dickens story. Elaine Hubbard will direct. Show dates will be Dec. 5-14.

In 2015, “Aesop’s Foibles,” directed by Sandra Federico, will feature several classic fables brought to life in new and exciting ways. This show will be presented Feb. 20 through March 1.

“The Twelve Dancing Princesses” brings this fairy tale about 12 rebellious royals to the stage. Sara Sheehan will direct. Show dates will be April 17-26, 2015.

The 54th season performance partner is Simple Helix. “Simple Helix believes in the mission of Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and is proud to sponsor the 54th Season,” president Steve Shickles said. “Onstage, backstage or in the audience, there’s nothing that compares to live theatre.”

Mockensturm acknowledged support of the North Alabama business community, Alabama State Council on the Arts, The Arts Council and the City of Huntsville. “Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater continues to raise up a third generation of theater lovers,” she said.

Founded in 1961, Fantasy Playhouse offers stage productions, year-round academy classes, outreach into local schools and a hands-on formal mentoring program.

Productions are presented at the Von Braun Center Playhouse. For tickets and information, call 256-539-6829 or visit fantasyplayhouse.com.
