MADISON, HUNTSVILLE – The Great Diaper Drive will help babies with contributions of disposable diapers and wipes to Manna House and Crisis Services of North Alabama.

In 2013, Rocket City Mom (rocketcitymom.com) and WHNT-19 first partnered for The Great Diaper Drive and collected more than 40,000 diapers. “This year, we hope to do even better,” Rocket City Mom creator and CEO Jennifer Breuer said.

The Great Diaper Drive opened on Sept. 1 and will run through Sept. 11. Their motto is “Don’t be a stinker. Help a baby out.”

“Diapers may seem like a very necessary item, but they are not covered by most social service programs,” such as the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program and food stamps, Breuer said.

“One in three low-income moms struggle to afford diapers. One in 12 admit to ‘stretching’ their supplies by leaving a child in a soiled diaper,” Breuer said.

All contributions to The Great Diaper Drive will stay local to help area families. Opened packages will be accepted.

Residents can place packages or boxes of diapers in a donation barrel at these locations:

* Any Wal-Mart in Madison County

* Crestwood Medical Center

* A Nurturing Moment

* The Little Gym in Jones Valley and Providence

* Posh Mommy and Baby, Too!

* KidVenture

“We’re throwing ‘The Great Diaper Shower’ at KidVenture at 500 Lanier Road, Suite D in Madison on Sept. 7 from noon to 6 p.m.,” Breuer said. “Admission is one package of diapers per child.” Adults will be admitted free.

The ‘diaper shower’ will feature live entertainment and Sub Zero Ice Cream & Yogurt’s truck. Numerous door prizes will includes classes at The Little Gym of Huntsville, gift certificate for 4D Mommies Huntsville and family four-packs from Huntsville Botanical Garden, Sci-Quest Hands-on Science Center, Burritt on the Mountain and U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

Stephenie Walker is managing editor for Rocket City Mom.
