MADISON- Against winless and outmanned Grissom, Bob Jones leaned on the running game and came away with a 50-13 region win that makes their record 5-2 (4-1 in Class 7A, Region 8).

Thunder and lightning before the game caused a 30 minute delay. Miles Strickland struck like a lightning bolt when the game started. The junior provided all the offense Bob Jones would need as he struck for five first half touchdowns.

Strickland had his second straight game over 140 yards rushing. He ran eight times for 151 yards plus a 57-yard kickoff return on the opening kickoff. He scored on a 28-yard run the first play from scrimmage.

“Certain times we were just trying to get the ball to the hash or the middle of the field and every time we gave it to him he scored,” Rose said of Strickland.

His longest touchdown run was 60 yards and his shortest was 1 yard.

“We executed really well the first half and put the game away early,” Bob Jones coach Kevin Rose said. “We tried to play every kid we could. That is exactly what we needed in a week like this.”

“Miles has a chance to be a big time player. He’s getting better each week and for us to win playoff games down the road he’s going to have to make some big runs like that,” Rose added.

Several young players got extended playing time including Milkhi Stewart at quarterback. Deonte Gray got Bob Jones only touchdown in the second half on a 60-yard scamper turning a loss into a touchdown run. Collins Hess also got some work at quarterback in a quickly played second half which saw neither team attempt a pass.

Bob Jones led 29-0 after the first quarter and 43-7 at halftime. Deondre Douglas added a 20-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Casals.

Grissom added a touchdown on a 45-yard touchdown run by quarterback Brock Easton against the Patriots second team defense.
