MADISON – Music at Messiah’s next concert will feature renowned baritone Andrew Nalley on Aug. 2.

Concert time is 4 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 7740 U.S. 72 W. The concert is free.

“We love great music at Messiah Lutheran. To hear it live is to experience it fully,” Messiah’s communication and media coordinator Meredith Kilby said. “To be in the presence of an inspired performer, revealing the beauty of their instrument through the gift of music is something to treasure.”

Music at Messiah was formed to allow children to experience live music.

A senior at the University of Alabama, Nalley studies with Dr. Paul Houghtaling and has performed with UA Opera Theatre in the title role in “Don Giovanni”; John Sorel, “The Consul”; Archibald Grosvenor, Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Patience”; and Bailiff, Amir Zaheri’s “The Raven’s Revenge.”

Nalley was a finalist in National Opera Association’s 2011 Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition in San Antonio, Texas.

This summer, he is appearing with Opera in the Ozarks in Arkansas. Nalley has won or been a finalist in competitions with Alabama Federation of Music Clubs, Birmingham Music Club Guild, Alabama Music Teachers Association and Montgomery Symphony’s Vann Vocal Institute for Emerging Artists.

His vocal career began with Martha Brouse at Belle Voce Studio in Huntsville. “His connection to Martha Brouse and the Huntsville vocal community gives the performance also a sense of homecoming,” Kilby said.

His program “will appeal to fans of opera and vocal performance of any age and experience,” Kilby said. “It’s a unique opportunity to hear a sublimely talented vocalist at the dawning of his professional career.”

Tentatively, Nalley’s program will feature Handel’s “Furibondo spira il vento,” Schumann’s “Widmung,” Giovanni arias, Mozart’s “Fin’ chan dal vino,” Tchaikovsky’s “Don Juan’s Serenade” and Stephen Foster’s “Beautiful Dreamer.”

Music at Messiah is self-supporting, relying solely on generosity of public benefactors. All donations support this concert series.

Following the concert, guests are invited to a light reception. For more information, visit mlutheran.org, musicatmessiah.blogspot.com or Facebook/musicatmessiah.
