Yard sale to benefit EPIC

MADISON – A yard sale to benefit Exceptional People in Community (EPIC) is scheduled for Aug. 22 at the Madison Senior Center at 1282 Hughes Road from 8 a.m. until noon.

EPIC is an organization inspired by regular meetings of Madison City Disability Advocacy Board (MCDAB). It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer body that serves adult-aged persons with developmental disabilities. EPIC was formed in June 2014 and has a day program that meets at Asbury United Methodist Church.

The program will be receiving 100 percent of the proceeds from Saturday’s yard sale, which event organizer Claudia Rice said will go towards hiring “teaching assistants” and materials for the day program.

“Our long-term-goal is to create a residential community with varying levels of residential and employment support,” Rice said. “Successful programs exist in varying parts of the country and there is no reason why we can’t create something like that in our area.”

The organization already has items like clothing, toys, furniture, electronics and other household items. Anyone wishing to donate items to be sold in the yard sale may drop off the merchandise at the Senior Center on Friday, Aug. 21 from 2 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
