MADISON – As a child, Larry Becker was a child of the military, as his father was in the United States Navy. That helped influence Becker to become involved with ROTC at Northeastern University in Boston.

After attending Northeastern, Becker received his commission in the Army in 1968 and went to specialized school at Fort Indiantown Gap, Penn.

Two years of training and Becker converted to the ordnance branch of the Army.

Becker served a tour in Vietnam from 1970-71. He served as company commander for half of his tour, and for the other half served as a logistics officer.

He also served two tours in Germany, one tour in Korea for which he was a company commander, and one tour in England.

Becker served in various locations around the country, including Washington, D.C., where he was serving in the acquisition corps area of the Army.

In his 27-year career, Becker commanded three different companies, as well as helping run several defense programs for the Army. His last assignment was a two-year stint at Redstone Arsenal, where he was Chief of Staff for the Space & Missile Defense Command.

Becker retired form the Army as a Colonel in 1995.

“I got a tremendous sense of satisfaction from the Army,” Becker said. “I was able to work with great soldiers form around the world.”

Becker now works at PeopleTec, Inc., and owns and manages his own company, Trouble Free Docks and Boat Lifts, which he described as a “waterfront solutions provider.”

Becker started the company in 2005. The company provides ways for boats, docks and boat transportation to be installed at waterfront properties. The company’s website can be found at tfdbl.com.
