Tami Grant promotes a healthy lifestyle

Why I Love This Town

MADISON – Tami Hubbard Grant appreciates Madison’s “really nice people.”

“We have lots of good friends in Madison,” Tami said. Although Madison is small, the town constantly has plenty of activities.

The Grants have started attending a new church, The Table, with Rev. John Ryberg. “We open our home on the first Sunday for small groups. People are more open and interactive than in a really big church,” she said.

A Tuscaloosa native, Tami met husband John Grant in Houston, Texas where they worked for the same company. After daughter Lauren was born, they returned to Alabama in 1987 to live closer to relatives after John accepted a job with Wyle.

Tami entered college in Houston and graduated years later at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She works as a quality assurance analyst for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) on a NASA contract. John is a senior systems engineer for Dynetics Technical Services on a NASA contract.

Their daughter Lauren, an accountant, lives in Seattle, Wash. Son Russell attends the University of Alabama, is in National Guard and plans an Army career.

Tami also is an USANA Health Sciences associate for nutritional aids, health/energy foods and skincare items. She and John have visited USANA’s factory in Salt Lake City, Utah. Tami first improved her health as a customer, then completed training and now is a health coach.

“I focus on teaching people how to eat real and low-glycemic foods,” Tami said. She offers free health assessments (BlueSkies.usana.com).

Supporting her healthy lifestyle, Tami has started line dancing as a new hobby. “I’m not very coordinated but always wanted to try,” she said. She also likes jazzercise, backed by music from Pit Bull, Christina Grimmie, One Direction and classic rock ‘n roll … even country.

“My all-time favorite band is The Beatles,” Tami said.

A fan of Mexican food, Tami likes to eat at Phil Sandoval’s Mexican Restaurante (“for free ice cream”) and Casa Blanca in Madison. Ten-plus years ago, Tami and John adopted two stray cats, Mittens and Pepper.
