HUNTSVILLE – Crestwood Medical Center has received approval to expand its facility with 30 beds for general acute care.

Alabama Certificate of Need Review Board announced this decision at its Oct. 21 meeting in Montgomery.

“More patients are choosing to come to Crestwood each year, and we are growing our capacity to serve them,” Lori Light said. Light is Crestwood’s Director of Marketing and Communications.

“The recent expansion and renovation of our emergency department enhanced our ability to care for ER patients, and we look forward to adding resources for inpatient care as well,” Light said.

The construction project will cost an estimated $8.9 million for the addition of 21,300 square feet. Work will start in early 2016 and be completed by third quarter 2016.

The additional 30 private patient rooms will be built in an unfinished space on fourth floor of Crestwood’s East patient tower. With the addition, Crestwood’s total bed count will be 180.

“Our patients receive high quality care and personalized service and growing our hospital will allow us to continue these high service levels and serve more people in North Alabama,” Light said. “We appreciate the community’s trust in our ability to care for their family’s healthcare needs.”

For the past three years, The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading accreditor of health care organizations, has recognized Crestwood as a “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures.” Crestwood was recognized for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.
