MADISON – Madison Police Department has obtained warrants for a man and a woman on charges of car burglary at Hogan Family YMCA and use of stolen credit card.

Jock Baugh, 26, and Mariel Lopez, 27, both of Albertville, are in custody in the Marshall County Jail on unrelated charges. Madison police officers have warrants for both of them on charges of unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle, theft of property 2nd and fraudulent use of a credit card, two counts.

Baugh and Lopez entered the Apple Store in Huntsville and used a credit card that was reported stolen from an automobile break-in at Hogan Family YMCA. The purchase was in excess of $1,000.

On Dec. 16, Madison Police Department posted photographs on its Facebook account of two individuals buying a laptop computer at a local retailer. The department received numerous calls of people who recognized the individuals.

The police department thanks those individuals who took the time to call and give information. With the information posted on Facebook, detectives were able to identify the offenders.

Baugh and Lopez will be transferred to Madison County Jail after charges in Marshall County are complete.

In recent months, Madison police officers have responded to several automobile break-ins. Residents can guard against this crime with preventive actions:

* Remove all valuables before leaving your vehicle.

* Lock your vehicle

* Activate your vehicle alarm (if available).

* Park vehicles in a lighted area.

Officers said to report any break-in, even if nothing is missing or broken. Entering someone’s vehicle is still a crime.

City of Madison Police Department’s address is 100 Hughes Road in City Hall. For emergency situations, call 9-1-1. For situations that aren’t an emergency, call 256-772-5658.
