Inside-Out helps year-round, not just holidays

MADISON – Many individuals, school groups and companies help underprivileged people during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Inside-Out Ministries works to help fathers, mothers and children in need throughout the calendar year.

“Inside-Out Ministries serves the Madison community, and the community is always ready to lend a hand. Thanksgiving and Christmas always bring about an extra measure of generosity, for which we are most grateful,” Deborah Ward said. She and husband Larry Ward co-founded Inside-Out.

“As we arrive at winter, we begin a new school semester, and we have many days when businesses close,” Deborah Ward said. Employees who do not have vacation benefits for holiday pay do not have funds for an extended period of time. Many people work part-time or temporary jobs, which are often suspended during these breaks.

“However, this is our reminder that hunger and poverty do not know what time of year it is,” Ward said. “These issues are in front of us each and every day in many ways.”

Life’s daily demands don’t stop. “Children grow and outgrow clothing, shoes and coats quickly. Families struggle to earn enough to pay for rent and utilities, which are budget busters,” Ward said. Add to that insurance premiums, food, car maintenance and operation costs every month of the year.

“So, while this time of year is important and should be a celebration, many are not able to do this now or even during February, May or June,” Ward said. “Every month can be a struggle. We hope the caring continues.”

All charities have specific needs. “We like to think we are working together, rather than competing. We hope the generosity and caring continue,” Ward said.

“With everyone working together, we have ways to offer hope for a better day to the families of Madison. Basic life needs are a focus here at Inside-Out. Without the security of a home, heat and air or food, the rest of it is just ‘stuff,'” she said.
