Fowler to present ‘State of the Schools’

MADISON – Dr. Dee Fowler, Superintendent of Madison City Schools, will present a “State of the Schools” report on Feb. 11.

Fowler and Madison Board of Education invite residents to attend the meeting at Bob Jones High School in Zompa Auditorium at 6 p.m. At this community meeting, Fowler will update the audience about the district’s current standing and discuss the future and quality of education in the City of Madison.

“We look forward to a time to celebrate our success with you and to learn how we can best serve our students and community,” Fowler said.

Fowler’s topics will include budgeting and the recent statewide law concerning charter schools. “One very important topic in our state is charter schools,” Fowler said. “We are seeking your feedback regarding the current quality of education, and if there are areas where you feel charter schools could help.”

He will also discuss the tax issue in Limestone County, where approximately 1,600 students live from the total of about 10,000 students in Madison City Schools.

“We have more than 1,600 students living in Madison City, Limestone County. Their parents pay county taxes for education, but Madison City Schools are not receiving any of it. This is a major concern, and you need to be made aware of this problem we are facing,” Fowler said.

“This meeting gives us a chance to receive feedback from you,” Fowler said.
