MADISON-  Bob Jones is one win away from clinching a playoff berth after winning 2-1 at James Clemens Friday night. James Clemens will try to force a deciding game 3 when the teams resume play at 11 a.m. at Bob Jones field.

Bob Jones got two runs in the first inning on a throwing error by James Clemens shortstop Jared Barnes. Leadoff batter Ford Luttrell reached on an error to start the game and Zach Duvall singled. Both scored on a grounder by Garrett Gillum that Barnes fielded but threw errant to first base.

Luke Whaley pitched seven innings to get the win for Bob Jones. He allowed eight hits. He was helped by a double play in the fourth when Ethan Thomas lined out to short and Jordan Anderson was doubled off first.

The Jets had three hits in the sixth and a single by Jacob Phillips plated Ethan Thomas but Whaley got a strike out of Thomas Demirijian to end the threat.

“We got two runs and kept pressure on them,” Whaley said. “Anytime you have to put up two runs at home to not lose it’s tough. It was intense situations the whole game. I was just trying to put it in the strike zone and let my defense make plays.”

The final batter Jordan Anderson hit a ball deep to center field and centerfielder Ford Luttrell made a nice running catch.

Caleb Caple pitched into the seventh for James Clemens and allowed only 2 hits.
