Shaw deployed twice each to Iraq, Afghanistan

MADISON – Eddie Q. Shaw works for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in Huntsville as a Contracting Officer and Contracting Section Chief.

Shaw served in the U.S. Army from 1984-1986. He completed Basic and MOS training, one station unit, at Fort Sill, Okla. His work later included Military Occupational Specialty 15E with Pershing II Nuclear Missile Weapon System.

He deployed to Bavaria, Germany, Schwabisch Gmund in the Hardt Kaserne Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery. Shaw worked with the Pershing Live Fire Exercise in Cocoa Beach, Fla. in 1985.

In Georgia Army National Guard, he served with 19 Delta, Mechanized Scout in Douglasville from 1986-1996. He served in Operation Desert Storm at National Training Center for Desert Warfare in California in 1990.

“Since 2007 (through 2014), I deployed four times to Iraq and Afghanistan, all with USACE,” Shaw said. His destinations were Gulf Region South District (GRS), Tallil Airbase, Iraq; Gulf Region Division, Baghdad, Iraq; Qalaa House, Kabul, Afghanistan; and Kandahar Airbase, Afghanistan.

Shaw’s numerous Army awards include one Commander and two Army Superior Civilian Service Awards and Secretary of the Army Barbara C. Heald (Deployed Civilian) Award.

The Shaw family relocated to Madison in 2004 with his promotion with USACE. In addition, “My folks (John and Marie Shaw) of Jackson, Ga. are both retired and live south of Atlanta. I returned to the South to be closer to them,” Eddie Shaw said.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from DeVry University in Decatur, Ga. He completed the Department of Defense’s program for High Performance Computing Modernization.

His wife Candy works as an IT manager with Aaron’s and is “the finest mother and supportive spouse put on this planet. She enjoys volunteerism as a way to pay her good fortunes forward.”

His stepson Hayden Ward is “a math genius,” and his son Austin Lee Shaw, a junior at Buckhorn High School, participates in Drama Club and ROTC.

Eddie Shaw’s hobbies are fishing, woodworking and “anything mechanical.”
