MADISON – Lamb of God Lutheran Church at 11716 County Line Road will host AfterBeat Music Camp on July 11-15.

Elementary and middle school youth can enroll in the weeklong music camp for strings, horns and woodwinds.

“Playing a musical instrument lifts the human soul with a unique joy, but it is a skill that must be nurtured and encouraged in one’s youth,” Rev. John Roebke said. “That is why Lamb of God Church is offering the AfterBeat camp.”

Instructors Donald and Nancy Krause have considerable experience.

Donald was the original band director for Mount Calvary Lutheran grade school in La Crosse, Wis. for nine years and also taught for one year at First Lutheran Middle School. “He played French horn in the Coulee Regional Festival of Arts for 10 years and in the La Crosse Concert Band and Symphony for 25 years,” Roebke said.

While living in the Appleton, Wis. area, Donald Krause has been substitute band director for the Appleton Christian educational program for beginner and middle school bands for the past 23 years and also been involved with Appleton Public Schools’ concert band summer series for 16 years.

“Donald has also operated a private horn studio 22 years and is the founder of Horns a Plenty Christmas, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships for high school French horn students who are attending college,” Roebke said.

Nancy Krause has been a church organist, choir accompanist and string player for 50-plus years. For five years, she has taught beginning string players in the after-school program in Menasha, Wis. Nancy accompanies both secular and church musical productions, occasionally playing in their pit orchestras.

Currently, Nancy is a church organist for a local congregation and teaches both piano and strings in her home studio. “Nancy is glad that she is finally able to pursue two of her passions, teaching and playing music,” Roebke said.

At the AfterBeat camp, lessons are 30 minutes long for five consecutive days. All lessons will be held on Lamb of God Church’s campus. Registration fee of $25 will cover instrument rental.
