HUNTSVILLE – In celebration of its 40th anniversary of on-air service to the Tennessee Valley, WLRH-89.3 public radio station will host “An Evening with Sarah Vowell.”
Vowell’s appearance will be her first show in Alabama and is slated for Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall of the Von Braun Center.
By examining connections between America’s past and present, Vowell offers personal, often humorous, accounts of everything from presidents and their assassins to colonial religious fanatics. She shares her thoughts on American Indians, utopian dreamers and pop music.
History buffs, bookworms and supporters of public radio will enjoy this experience with the author and actor. After her performance, Vowell will conduct a book signing.
Vowell’s honors include the 1996 Music Journalism Award and Peabody Award as editor for “This American Life.”
Author of seven nonfiction books, Vowell focuses on history and social commentary. Her books are “The Wordy Shipmates,” “Assassination Vacation” and her latest work, “Lafayette and the Somewhat United States of America.”
Her television work includes appearances on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart, “Conan” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Her most recognizable film role is the voice of superhero teen, Violet Parr, on Pixar’s “The Incredibles.”
WLRH is a non-commercial public radio station, licensed to the Alabama Educational Television Commission. WLRH receives funding from State of Alabama, Corporation for Public Broadcasting and listener contributions.
WLRH, Alabama’s first full-service public radio station, is a member of Public Radio International, American Public Media and National Public Radio. Offices and studios are located on the University of Alabama in Huntsville campus.
