MADISON- For one night, Elisia Alampi traded her bass drum for a bouquet and her band hat for a crown.

Alampi, a senior who will attend Vanderbilt next year, was crowned homecoming queen at halftime of James Clemens football game Friday night. The Jets won the game 21-14 but the real suspense was who would be named homecoming queen from the six senior court representatives.

Alampi plays second bass drum in the James Clemens Marching Band. She is the only girl in the drum battery that goes out on the field. She also plays concert band and is active in SGA and National Honor Society.

She is the daughter of Peter and Teresa Alampi. The family moved to Madison when Elisia was in the eighth grade from Texas.

“It’s very exciting and an honor to be the queen of such an amazing school. I love James Clemens,” said Alampi who was escorted by Cade Boseck.

The other senior representatives were Capri Alex, Hadley Cawthorne, Tara Leahy, Avery McCutcheon, and Lauren Wasley. The ladies have had an exciting week with the parade down County Line Road on Thursday and the homecoming dance Saturday night.

Among the teams represented on the homecoming court were the cheerleaders, dance team, and volleyball team.

Alampi said she has not decided on a field of study but it will be either medical or engineering. Either way she is one of the smartest kids in her class at James Clemens, she scored a 34 on the ACT.

John Jenkins, a middle linebacker on the football team, was elected homecoming king.
