MADISON-  Defending state champions, out-of-state powers and future Division I players highlight the field for the N2Hoops Invitational boys basketball tournament at Bob Jones that tips off today.

Among those competing in the 16-team field are returning event champion Blackman (Tenn.), reigning 3A state champ Madison Academy, defending 2A champ Lanett and Mae Jemison, which won the 5A state title last year as Johnson HIgh School.

Bob Jones will lead off the action against Creekwood (TN) at 2 pm. Blackman plays Grissom next, then Lee of Huntsville takes on Auburn High School featuring Miss. St. signee Garrison Brooks. Tonights slate includes Mae Jemison featuring Alabama signee John Petty playing Murphy (Al.) at 8 pm. The winner of that game would advance to a 6:30 pm game Tuesday night.

Sparkman plays Madison Academy at 5 pm in gym 2 while Hazel Green faces Gadsden City in the main gym tonight.

“I want to commend Hometown Lenders our sponsor for bringing in this type talent to our tournament,” Bob Jones coach and tournament director Luther TIggs said.  “There is going to be some real good basketball matchups. I don’t think there is one team favored to win it. We wanted to bring in the best most elite talent we could find in the Southeast to North Alabama.”

The list of college coaches in attendance is also impressive. Alabama, Auburn, and and other SEC basketball programs are expected to send coaches.

The list of marquee players in action include five-star guard and Alabama signee John Petty of Mae Jemison, Lee-Huntsville four-star sophomore guard Kobe Brown, Hazel Green four-star sophomore guard Kira Lewis and Auburn’s Garrison Brooks, a four-star forward and Mississippi State signee.
