Police handle theft, criminal mischief charges

MADISON – Officers in Madison Police Department have been dealing with robberies and criminal mischief in recent weeks.
On Dec. 3 at approximately 3:30 a.m., Madison officers responded to Summerview Drive, off Shelton Road to check on suspicious activity. A resident in this area saw people looking in his car and telephoned the police department.
Responding officers stopped a black sedan with three people inside in that vicinity near Oakland Road. Further investigation revealed the three individuals possessed stolen property taken from cars in the Summerview Drive and Oakland Road area.
The vehicles entered were unlocked, and suspects took purses and credit cards. The car they were driving had been stolen from Huntsville and had not yet been discovered missing by the owner at the time of the stop. Madison officers contacted Huntsville Police Department, which is assisting in the investigation.
Madison police officers arrested all three individuals on charges of seven counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle; one count, Theft of Property – 3rd Degree; and one count, Theft of Property – 4th degree. More charges are pending against these offenders.
Deon Jackson, 18, of Huntsville was taken Madison County Jail. A 15-year-old male from Huntsville and a 15-year-old male from Harvest were taken to the Neaves-Davis Center for Children.
Madison Police Department commended the citizen who saw the suspicious behavior and telephoned police. The department’s ability to enhance safety in the community is tied directly to residents’ prompt and thorough reporting of suspicious activity, according to a police statement.
The majority of car burglaries in Madison occurs between midnight and 5 a.m. The police department reminds citizens to remove valuables from vehicles parked overnight, and lock car doors. The items most frequently stolen from vehicles are purses, wallets, portable electronics and firearms.
On Dec. 5, police responded to a robbery at Fuel City, 8066 Madison Blvd.
In addition, officers took reports about 12 vehicles that been vandalized overnight on Nov. 1. Vehicles had been shot with a BB/ pellet gun.
Proactive policing and neighborhood patrol led Madison police in stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation. Based on information generated from this patrol stop, detectives identified the offenders, who will be charged with Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle and Criminal Mischief.
