Madison reminds Herndon of Cullman, her hometown

MADISON – Madison residents for 13 years, Kelly and Matthew Herndon have found fantastic jobs, a positive environment to raise their children, an uplifting church and a superior education with Madison City Schools.

The Herndons joined Asbury United Methodist Church in 2005. “Asbury has been a blessing, a comfortable place for our children to learn about our Savior, and a place where we devote our time,” Kelly said.

Outdoor lovers, they bike, swim, play tennis and “hop across the creek in our backyard for the greenway.” She is happy with the new greenway and sidewalks along County Line Road.

“Matthew and I both run, and this has been grand. I meet several ladies in early morning hours for a run. Madison is very accommodating for runners.” Kelly said.

“The longer we’re here in Madison, the more it feels like my hometown of Cullman. I love that,” she said.

“The one difference I see in Madison from other cities is that Madison is a transient city,” she said. “Families move in and out often; however, this is a great way to tell families about Madison.”

Kelly worked as a nurse at Clearview Cancer Institute until their second daughter was born and she switched to stay-at-home mom. “We attended story time at Madison Public Library, played at Dublin and Palmer parks and ventured to Huntsville Botanical Garden. This provided great opportunities to meet other moms and form relationships that have lasted,” Kelly said.

Matthew works at The Orthopedic Center. Their daughters attend Heritage Elementary School: Molly, 10, fourth grade; Lucy, 7, first grade; and Maryann, 5, kindergarten. All three take classes at The Dance Company.

A regular volunteer, Kelly now serves on the Heritage PTA Board. “I absolutely love it. I know teachers and staff even better,” she said.

“Our family is content here in Madison … from our church, to school, to extra activities. It’s our home. We’re happy we landed here and plan to stay,” Kelly said.

Kelly’s favorite Madison restaurants are Uncle Maddio’s, Sakura and I Love Sushi, along with Bruester’s for warm-weather treats. She often refers people to The Dance Company, Asbury and their veterinarian, Dr. Robert Racelis at Best Friends.
