Chess league schedules tourneys, recruits sponsors

MADISON –Madison City chess League has planned a busy schedule of tournaments for 2017 and 2018.

MCCL is seeking sponsors for local events that feature this extremely popular game of strategy and skill. “We welcome sponsors for each tournament to help us pay for awards and tournament directors,” MCCL Executive Director Ranae Bartlett said.

An Exclusive Corporate Sponsorship offers several benefits:

* The company is the chess event’s one named sponsor.

* A corporate representative can speak to tournament audience.

* Company signage will be displayed at tournament.

* Corporate name will be listed in all promotional materials.

As a sponsor, “You’re promoting chess education in our community, and our families will know it,” Bartlett said. For details about tournament sponsorship, email mccl.director@gmail.com.

The 2017-2018 MCCL tournament schedule offers a variety of choices:

* Summer Knights Chess Tournament, Aug. 26, 2017, sponsored by CB&S Bank – Rainbow Elementary School. Registration due by Aug. 23.

* MCS Fall Scholars Tournament, Oct. 21, 2017 – Madison Elementary School. Sponsorship amount is $500.

* Queen’s Quest Tournament, Nov. 18, 2017 — Mill Creek Elementary School. Sponsorship amount is $1,000.

* Winter Knights Tournament, Jan. 13, 2018 — Columbia Elementary School. Sponsorship amount is $500. Entry deadline is Jan. 10, 2018.

* Rookie Rally Tournament, Jan. 27, 2018 — Blossomwood Elementary School in Huntsville. Sponsorship amount is $1,000.

* Bishop’s Bash Tournament, Feb. 24, 2018 — Hampton Cove Elementary School in Huntsville. Sponsorship amount is $1,000.

* 2018 City Chess Championship, April 13-14, 2018 — James Clemens High School. Sponsorship amount is $1,500. New for 2018, “We will crown a chess champion for each grade level K-12,” Bartlett said about expanding the level and amount of awards.

In addition, “MCCL has decided to conduct a four-round tournament to determine the winner of the Varsity Section of the MCCL Team Cup Championship for middle and high school players. We will use a Game 45/d5 time control during the Queen’s Quest,” Bartlett said. Coaches and sponsors for middle and high school chess teams will choose students to represent their schools. No fee will be charged to compete in this event.
