Sparkman Names Jason Brewer Head Baseball Coach
HARVEST- Less than a month after the resignation of its head baseball coach, Sparkman High has new man at the top of the baseball program. Jason Brewer has been named the new head coach of the Senators program replacing Kellen Greer who was at the helm for 11 seasons.
“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to lead the Sparkman program and to be able to continue the great tradition,” said Brewer.
For the past three seasons Brewer has been the assistant coach for the Senators working primarily with pitchers and catchers. The Senators have been a perennial powerhouse in the area the past decade and Brewer is well aware what is before him when the 2018 season begins next January.
“As an assistant, Coach Brewer has done an excellent job developing our pitchers and catchers once they entered the program and he has played a huge role in the success of our program,” said Jason Watts, Sparkman athletic director.
Sparkman principal Chris Shaw echoed those comments as he said, “We are excited to have a member of the Sparkman family move up into the position of head coach. Coach Brewer does an excellent job working with our student athletes both in the classroom and on the field.”
Prior to joining Sparkman, Brewer worked as an assistant at both Sheffield and Grissom High Schools. “I’m grateful for this opportunity and I want to thank both Mr. Shaw and Mr. Watts for their confidence in me to lead such a great program,” added Brewer. “I’m ready to go to work for our athletes, our school and our communities.”
