Women can join American Legion Auxiliary

MADISON – American Legion Post, Post 229 in Madison is establishing its own American Legion Auxiliary.

Women who qualify can join American Legion Auxiliary to volunteer and advance the mission of American Legion in promoting its service to veterans, current military members and their families.

The new organization “will be a great opportunity for those in our community, who are eligible for membership … to ‘serve,'” post commander Carlos Woods said.

“Both the president and the membership president of Alabama American Legion Auxiliary Department will provide information and be available for questions at the post’s meeting on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 229, located at Lunar Masonic Lodge, 724 Eastview Drive in Madison,” Woods said.

By attending the meeting, individuals can meet local legion members and meet others interested in becoming members of the auxiliary.

Membership in American Legion Auxiliary is limited to grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives and direct/adopted female descendants of American Legion members. Eligibility also is open to grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives and direct/adopted female descendants of all U.S. Armed Forces members who served in one of seven wars or conflicts and died in the line of duty or received Honorable Discharge after service.

* April 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918.

* Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1946.
