LifeSouth schedules blood drives

MADISON – LifeSouth Community Blood Centers are scheduling a New Year’s push to collect blood for their reserves.

Blood drives will be held at numerous sites in North Alabama on Dec. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

* Guntersville — Walmart on Hwy. 431

* Rainbow City — Walgreen’s on Rainbow Drive

* Decatur — Walmart on Spring Ave. SW

* Florence — Walmart on Hough Road

* Huntsville — Walmart on S. Memorial Parkway

“This time of year is always slow for blood collections, due to the holidays and travel. As we prepare to enter the New Year, we are asking for the community’s help so that we are able to continue to meet the needs of the hospitals and patients we serve,” Eric Franchois, District Community Development Coordinator, said.

“During the drives, donors can enjoy complimentary treats and other appreciation items. The goal for the day is to draw 140 or more donors,” Franchois said.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old. Youth who are 16 years old also can donate blood with parental permission, who weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and who are in good health. A photo ID is required.

LifeSouth donors receive a complementary cholesterol screening with each donation. For additional information on blood donation, call LifeSouth at 888-795-2707 or visit lifesouth.org.

The Madison address of the LifeSouth office is 8190 Madison Blvd. The local phone number is 256-533-8201. To send an email message, email egfranchois@lifesouth.org.
