Vaughn’s dedication leads to Junior League presidency

MADISON – Friendly people, diversity and high-performing public schools are major reasons for Nancy Washington Vaughn’s attachment to Madison.

“I spent many weeks each summer during my childhood here with my paternal grandmother and great-grandmother who lived near downtown Madison until they passed away many years ago,” Vaughn said. “My dad’s side of the family is from the Madison and Triana area.”

Vaughn grew up in Oak Ridge, Tenn. She attended college at Austin Peay State University and earned bachelor’s degrees in communications arts and in political science. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence/law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School.

After growing up in a small town, Vaughn lived in big cities until moving to Madison. “I appreciate all aspects of small towns and big cities. Madison offers the best of both worlds!”

In March 2007, she and husband Hunter Vaughn moved to Madison for his career as an aerospace engineer with the U.S. Department of Defense. “Our relocation was associated with BRAC (Base Realignment And Closure). We were newlyweds and purchased our first house together in Madison. We still reside in that home,” Vaughn said.

Their daughter Mary is a first-grader at Mill Creek Elementary School.

Vaughn’s major service commitment is the office of President with Junior League of Huntsville. She also is a board member for Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy, Huntsville Library Foundation and The Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville.

She serves as legal advisor for Christian Women’s Job Corps of Madison County and participates with Huntsville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

“I’ve always enjoyed community service and volunteered a lot as a child and teenager. Therefore, I appreciate the opportunity … to give back to our community through my volunteer service,” Vaughn said.

Vaughn has a solo law practice in Madison, Legal Advantage Human Resources Solutions. “As an employment law attorney and certified human resources professional, I provide employment law representation and advice to businesses, non-profit organizations, educational institutions and individuals.”

The Vaughns own Sadie and Kerwin, energetic Labrador retriever mixes that they adopted from Huntsville Humane Society.

Her favorite music genres are R&B, jazz and country. For a meal out, Nancy enjoys a visit to Cork & Crust Pizzeria, Stem and Stein and Main Street Cafe.
