Patriots Wrestling Set School Record With Latest Win

Patriots Wrestling Set School Record With Latest Win

MADISON- Posting four individual victories and runner-up spots each the Bob Jones Patriots wrestling team won its annual Dick Clem Invitational held on Martin Luther King Day. The victory in the six-team event was the Patriots’ sixth tournament victory this season setting a new program school record.

The Patriots placed first with 388 points while Huntsville was runner-up with 275. The remainder of the team scores include Athens (221), Southside (220), Tuscaloosa County (204) and Mountain Brook (176). The tournament MVP was two-time state champion and All-American Christian Knop of Athens who took the title in the 182-pound class.

For Bob Jones, weight division winners were Jimmy Wilson (106), Parker Snyder (132), Jordan Whalen (138) and Carl Francovitch (152). To add to the scoring for the Patriots were runner-up finishers Zaderian Toney (115), David Onquit (145), George Francovitch (182) and Harold Gilmore (195). Third place finishers included Gabe Pittman (160), Seth Dupree (220) and Caleb Lawson (HWT). The Patriots also had one fourth place finisher in Kevin McGhaw (120).

The most recent dual victories for the Patriots were slashing wins over Buckhorn 74-3 and James Clemens 72-6. The squad is now among the scheduled State Duals qualifying rounds with Super Sectionals (Feb. 9-10) and State Tournament (Feb. 16-17) yet to come.
