Troy signee Demontrez Brown delivered for Bob Jones

MADISON- Going into the 2017 football season Bob Jones Head Football Coach Kevin Rose said that his small but talented senior group had to “be impact players. They can’t just be a piece of the puzzle they have to make big plays in every game.”

Bob Jones would be breaking in a new quarterback, sophomore Caden Rose, making the task even more challenging.

Demontrez Brown, from his wide receiver position came through with one of the biggest seasons ever at Bob Jones. Brown and Rose combined for 13 touchdowns as Bob Jones won 7 of 8 games during one stretch of the season including wins over favored teams like James Clemens and Gadsden City on the road.

“People said we had a new quarterback and we wouldn’t make big plays but we came out and Caden did a great job and we shocked a lot of people. We both had great seasons,” Brown said.

For the season Brown caught 64 passes for 1,179 yards. He threw a touchdown pass against Huntsville to spark a second half comeback. His biggest play of the season may not even have been a touchdown. Trailing James Clemens 7-0 Bob Jones went for it on fourth-and-six and Brown caught a 34-yard pass to the one. He also had two touchdowns in that game.

He closed his high school career being selected an Alabama All-Star and played in the Alabama-Mississippi all star game.

During his remarks Brown talked about his mother who moved the family to Madison from York, Ala in Sumter County so he would have more opportunity academically and athletically. Brown was in the fifth grade when he moved to Madison with his family.

Long a Troy commit Brown had interest from other schools but stayed with Troy and signed a full athletic scholarship on Wednesday Feb. 7.

“At Troy they throw the ball a lot and make their receivers look great. They are like a family and I just loved it on my visit and they took me in.”

Brown will join former teammate Deondre Douglas who graduated from Bob Jones in 2015 and plays receiver at Troy.

“Demontrez had a great season for us and Troy got a steal by signing him,” Kevin Rose said. “He is good enough to play in the SEC but Troy is a good fit for him and the offense they run will be conducive to his skill set.”

An excellent student, Brown said that he will major in business at Troy.
